WID Teaching Philosophy

I have had the privilege of teaching a writing-in-the-disciplines (WID)/writing across the curriculum (WAC) course in my department called Critical Infrastructure Systems. Over the years teaching this course, I have been struck by the possible roles that writing plays in engineering formation. The struggles and challenges I've faced have led me to deep reflection on writing pedagogy in engineering.

In 2017, I was awarded the GW Distinguished Teaching Award for Writing in the Disciplines. A brief video was created explaining some aspects of my approach to WID teaching:

A more extended conversation with Prof. Rachel Riedner, Professor of Writing and of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and at the time the Deputy Director of the GW WID program. She was a Faculty Specialist Award winner for the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning, Republic of Ireland. Our conversation was used in workshops on her visits to Maynooth University, Dundalk Institute of Technology, Limerick University, Athlone Institute of Technology, University of Limerick, and Dublin City College, Ireland:
